Junior Assembly of the Model United Nations

Letter from the Secretary-General

Dear Delegates, Advisers, Parents, and Guests,

It is my honor to invite you to the third session of the Junior Assembly of the Model United Nations (JAMUN), to be held in October 2025. Our staff and secretariat have been working tirelessly to create a series of fun, informative, and engaging topics that will foster diplomacy and collaboration as they are debated. At JAMUN, students will spend two days making new connections with people across a variety of middle schools, learning more about past and present international issues, and building speaking and diplomatic skills.

This is a particularly special year for JAMUN, as this will be our first-ever session to include joint committees. In these special committees, delegates will have the opportunity to influence events outside of their own committees through skillful collaboration and keen legislation. In preparation for this, our Secretariat has spent months creating committees ranging from addressing nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation to adjudicating on the arrest of WNBA star Brittney Griner. Each committee has been designed to allow delegates to research their topics, present their ideas in front of their peers, and collaborate to create new, interesting solutions to the problems that they are given.

On behalf of the Secretariat and entire staff, welcome to JAMUN 3. Registration for JAMUN 3 will open on June 1, 2025 and remain open until September 15, 2025. Please email me at [email protected] with any questions about registration or our conference as a whole. I look forward to seeing you in October!

Sincerely,
Joshua Varon
Secretary-General, JAMUN 3

FAQ

What is the Junior Assembly of the Model United Nations? The Junior Assembly of the Model United Nations (JAMUN) is a two-day immersive educational experience that will thrust delegates into the world of diplomacy, legislation, and international relations. Delegates will develop essential skills such as public speaking, negotiation, critical thinking, and teamwork while gaining a deeper understanding of international challenges.

Who can participate in JAMUN? All middle school students or students in grades 5-8 can participate at JAMUN. Students do not need Model UN experience; they just need an interest in global issues and finding solutions.

What time commitment can be expected from sponsors? Students are expected to spend 2.5 hours in advance of conference preparing for their committee. Many sponsors will choose to hold three one-hour practices or four 45-minute practices in the weeks leading up to conference. Sponsors will not have to spend any time outside of these practices preparing resources for their delegates; all resources will be provided by JAMUN (sponsors may check “Prep & Resources”).

What materials are delegates expected to bring to a conference? JAMUN provides delegates with badges, placards, and committee-specific notepads. Delegates are expected to bring their own writing supplies along with means of communicating with their sponsors. Delegates may also bring notebooks for personal use or notetaking.

What is a Position Paper? Position Papers are one-page documents written by each delegate in advance of conference. Position Papers include an overview of each delegation, as well as their goals for committee and means of reaching them. Position Papers are due at 11:59 PM the day before conference.

Who runs the Junior Assembly of the Model United Nations? JAMUN was created by a number of high school students with the mission of extending Model UN to middle school students. Today, JAMUN is staffed by students enrolled in high schools and colleges across the country excited to give middle school students the opportunity to participate in Model UN.

What do delegates have for lunch during conference? JAMUN II will be held at the Deerfield Village Hall, next to many establishments where delegates can buy lunch. Delegates may also bring their own lunch. Lunch breaks are provided during conference between committee sessions (see the schedule at the bottom of the homepage).
