Hello Delegates!
I am Emma Lagunas and I’ll be chairing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for JAMUN III. Just so you can know a little bit about me, I've been in MUN since freshman year, I do science Olympiad, F1 in Schools, and try to do service wherever and whenever I can. I believe it is important to be aware and educated about the world around us which is why I felt like joining MUN would be the perfect choice for me. As a chair, one of the most important things to me is making sure that everyone feels relaxed and comfortable both during un-mods and while giving speeches ensuring that everyone is respectful.
UNSC, in my opinion, is one of the more high-stakes and diplomatically challenging committees. as you are representing global powers responsible for international peace and security. During this conference you will be debating one of two topics--Addressing the Rising Threat of Terrorism and Insurgent Groups in the Horn of Africa or Security Sector Reform in Sahel Region.
If Topic A is focused on, we will delve into the effectiveness of current counterterrorism efforts, the growing threat posed by organizations such as Al-Shabaab, and the ways in which international powers can coordinate sustainable security strategies in a region that is prone to instability.
If, instead, we focus on Topic B, the committee will look at how the Sahel's regional instability, underfunded security forces, and poor governance have made it easier for violence to occur. We will further have the opportunity to advocate for extensive reforms to improve institutional resilience and regional cooperation.
What I expect from my delegates is that everyone is actively participating during the conference however possible, as well as being considerate and adaptable during this conference.
Something that I can be strict about is delegates talking over one another and not allowing others to participate. The point of MUN is to work together in order to solve world problems. I cannot wait to be your chair this November and see how you all decide to tackle these problems.

Hello Delegates,

I am Myra, a senior at Deerfield High School. I am so excited to be your chair for the United Nations Security Council for JAMUN III. This will be my second year participating in JAMUN and I am eager to meet all of you. Outside of school I participate in Track & Field and help lead various philanthropy clubs. In my free time I also enjoy trying out new restaurants and driving around with my friends.

In this committee you will take on the role of the United Nations as you work with other delegates to maintain international peace and security. Your work will focus on the rise of terrorism and insurgency groups in the horn of Africa or security sector reform in the Sahel region. You will attempt to find peaceful solutions to one of the problems by providing recommendations for settlement terms.

I hope JAMUN III is both memorable and enlightening for you all. I truly believe JAMUN is a place where you can showcase your talents and intelligence in spirited debate that strays from a typical debate club. It is a great opportunity to refine public speaking skills, engage in global problem solving, and connect with peers who share an interest in international affairs. I encourage you all to research thoroughly, think critically, and most of all enjoy the experience!
