Dear Delegates.
Hey everyone! My name is Miranda Winters, a sophomore at Deerfield High School, and I am so excited to be your chair for The Restoration of Rome 527 CE. Outside of MUN, I love gymnastics, science, and reading.
A new emperor has just taken the throne in the Eastern Roman Empire: Justin I. His goal is to restore the glory of Rome by reclaiming the western provinces lost after the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 CE. But with a looming plague spreading across the empire, can Justinian’s ambitions survive?
In this committee, you will take on the role of the Roman Senate. The Republic is at its breaking point, and only the cautious wisdom and brilliant decision-making of the Senate can save it now. The Senate has acquired an unchallenged reputation for incompetence, corruption, and turmoil. I am eager to see if our delegates will replicate that behavior, or will lead the Republic into a new age.
The choices you make will determine whether Rome rises again or falls into chaos. Will you reclaim lost territories? Or will external enemies and internal conflicts prove too much to handle?
I’m beyond excited to see the diplomacy and strategy you bring to this committee. If you have any questions, I am more than happy to help you. Please feel free to reach out and email me ([email protected]). Let’s have a great conference!
Miranda
Hello everyone! My name is Sahana Shah, and I am truly honored to be your chair for JAMUN II. I’m a junior at Deerfield High School and a member of the DHS Model UN team. In addition to Model UN, I also play tennis and badminton for the school, and I’m involved in DECA and the District 113 Grant Foundation. In my free time, I love listening to music, dancing, and watching movies.
They say Rome was built in a day—will it only last for one too? The Republic is at its breaking point, and only the cautious wisdom and brilliant decision making of the Senate can save it now. The Senate has acquired an unchallenged reputation for incompetence, corruption, and turmoil. I am eager to see if our delegates will replicate that behavior, or will lead the Republic into a new age. Will Rome remain eternal? Or will it fall to pieces?
In this committee, you will take on the role of the Roman Senate as you manage the handling of a new plague sweeping across the nation, and an emperor who swears he will reunite Rome at all costs. It will be difficult to keep Rome standing, but I am certain you all will rise to the occasion. I am excited to see your creativity, collaboration, and the work you produce over this 2 day conference!
I look forward to seeing you grow as a delegate and learning the ropes of Model UN. If you have any questions, I am more than happy to help you. Please feel free to reach out and email me (

Yours truly,
Sahana Shah
