Dear Distinguished delegates,

Welcome to Imperial Russia! I am Alexandra Fumerton, a freshman at Duke Kunshan University studying Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. I’m so excited to be your chair for JCC. I have been a part of Model UN for six years, and this will be my second JAMUN conference. Outside of MUN, I am involved in many service projects and sports teams, such as volleyball and tennis.

In this committee, we will be exploring a pivotal event in Russian history, the Red October Revolution when Russia transitioned from centuries of imperial rule to revolutionary upheaval. As delegates, you will represent key figures and factions navigating the changing political landscape. Your task is to respond in real time to crises as they unfold, using diplomacy, strategy, and leadership to determine the future of Russia in this unpredictable period.

During the committee, I expect all delegates to remain professional and respectful of each other. Model UN is about learning, working together, and sharing ideas. This should be a space where everyone feels comfortable speaking up, listening to different perspectives, and tackling tough issues with an open mind. While this committee is based on a historical crisis during which violence played a significant role, it is important to emphasize the importance of finding non-violent and diplomatic solutions to the conflict. The goal is to find creative and peaceful solutions that can prevent or resolve crises.

My advice to you is to come prepared. Research both the Red October Revolution
and who you are representing, so you can engage in meaningful debate. I can't wait to hear all of your amazing ideas and see what unique solutions you all come up with!
